the cries of battle have finally subdued. thunderclan return to their rightful territory as riverclan retreat to their own, accepting defeat. windclan savour their small victory while shadowclan tries to comprehend the gains and losses they have been given. all four clans lick their wounds and collect their thoughts as they adjust to the new normal. yet, overhead starclan continue to whisper, and make a final decision: it is time for skyclan to rejoin the forest.
Darkpaw’s personality is one that is quite complicated, despite her young age. She is at a point in her life where she is yet unsure of what she wants in life and every event can shift her feelings and personality, for better or for worse. In essence, she is a very stubborn she-cat and is unwilling to admit when she is at a disadvantage or unable to do something. She enjoys her independence and gets annoyed by the mere thought of needing to ask someone for help. However, she does have good focus when she puts her mind to something and will learn fairly fast.
This is a she-cat who is not afraid to speak her mind and will more often than not, choose to say words that would be better left unsaid. She can be short and to the point, often judging others before she has ample time to get to know them. Because of this, just as others can easily push the wrong buttons concerning their interactions with her, she can also get on the wrong side of others just because she doesn’t entirely care how her words would affect others.
Despite all of this, deep down inside, Darkpaw does care deeply for her Clan. She might be on the fence when it concerns her faith in StarClan, but she would do anything to help protect her Clan - it might just take her a while to shift her goals and dreams from one path to another. However, depending on how she develops in the future moons, she could go about protecting and defending her Clan the wrong way entirely.
mouseheart and lichenclaw were two warriors of thunderclan who fell in love with one another during their later warrior years. both warriors had been consumed for much of their lives with trying to get better and stronger, in order to serve their clan. both warriors had dreams of being leader one day and made strides to achieve that goal. however, the time came where they both realized that with the moons moving by faster and faster, their dreams of being leader were dissipating. they had been rivals for a long time, only being a couple moons apart in age and had often fought to be better than the other. but as they both realized being the best wasn't going to matter much longer, they had a chat under the moon one night and realized they both wanted to settle down and have kits before it was too late. so, in her late sixties, mouseheart was expecting her first litter. she, luckily, had a good birth and two little she-kits entered the world completely healthy. one with a pelt as dark as the night and one with a pelt as light as the day. given the two polarizing pelts, the couple decided to name their kits dark-kit and lightkit.
it is usually a joyous moment in any parent's life when their kits open their eyes for the first time - like a last little surprise. what color eyes would their kits be blessed with? in reality, it was a joyous moment for mouseheart and lichenclaw as well, even though they were slightly taken aback by dark-kit's two different eye colors. one was a pale yellow, the other a bold blue which stood out against her black pelt. they were confused by what this meant, if it was a sign of something or not, but at first, they decided not to worry about it as everything else with dark-kit seemed to come through in a healthy position. it took a few moons for them to realize that there was indeed an issue concerning dark-kit. she started showing symptoms and signs of blindness in one of her eyes. but as dark-kit and lightkit grew and their personalities started to realize that dark-kit was anxiously waiting to become a warrior. they could see the drive and excitement in their young kit's eyes and they didn't want to diminish it yet. let her be a kit for a little while longer, they both decided. in hindsight, it probably wasn't the best idea to allow her to hold these fantasies of being a warrior of thunderclan when they weren't sure she'd be able to.
when it came time for the decision to be made, mottlestar approached her mother and together they made a decision that dark-kit wouldn't be able to train as a warrior. they approached her together and her mother took the reigns, wanting to tell her daughter the truth herself. "dear, unfortunately you won't be made an apprentice to a warrior." dark-kit's spirits plummeted at the realization. "why?" she mewed, disheartened. her mother frowned and nuzzled her daughter. "we are worried about hoe your eyesight will affect your training and effectiveness in battle. with how much tension exists between the clans, it's better not to risk your life like that." dark-kit understood, but at the same time didn't. couldn't it be her choice to risk her life? she wanted to fight for her clan! she wanted to be a warrior! she didn't was to be stuck in the nursery or elders den. where would she even belong if she wasn't a warrior? they mentioned something about the medicine cat perhaps looking for an apprentice, but she was a little deaf to their words. she nodded to whatever they asked her, knowing that she supposed a place to give her some purpose was better than none, but she wasn't happy about it. deep inside her, she could feel an expressible anger starting to appear.
a couple days later was the big day - for lightkit. the whole clan was called out to gather to welcome a new apprentice into the world of warriors. dark-kit became darkpaw and was assigned as the medicine cat's apprentice. a life of herbs and listening to other's woes. hur-ray. lightkit became lightpaw and was assigned a warrior as her mentor. she listened to the yowls of the clan saying her sister's name and for some reason, it sounded louder than when they cheered her new name. she felt that anger, that darkness, growing even further in her chest. she looked at lightpaw whose face was ecstatic. lightpaw who was lucky enough to be born without anything standing in her way of being a warrior. lightpaw who would be the perfect little apprentice for her mentor. lightpaw who was just absolutely perfect. the two were approached by mouseheart and lichenclaw after the ceremony. we are so proud of you! they mewed excitedly, but in darkpaw's mind they only said it to lightpaw. her eyes trailed over to the medicine cat's den and where she saw brafckentuft, looking at her. without a single word to her family, darkpaw walked away from them and towards her new future. she had no idea what she would make of it, but she would make something of this future. for no matter how disappointed she was, it was still a way to she could be of service to thunderclan. i will make something of this, she decided as she walked with confidence away from the family that represented the future that had dissipated into dust from her.
